‘Play is the best way to learn new skills and develop creative problem solving, to lower stress and bond with others. However, There are vanishingly few spaces for unstructured play in urban space. Play the Commons is a sculptural solution; a mobile means to allow citizens to engage with their surroundings (informed by parkour and other urban disciplines.) The project is also designed to be easily packed onto a vehicle, so it can be driven anywhere needed. This idea came about after bushfires and lockdowns meant many playgrounds were closed or gone. As such, the design process will include making sure the project is mobile, and that it’s made to be easily and systematically cleaned, to lower risks of viral transmissions.’
